I am a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist. I provide talk therapy to treat depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, interpersonal problems, and other emotional issues.
At various times in our lives we all end up feeling sad, angry, anxious, or lost. Sometimes we end up in unhealthy patterns: doubting our self-worth, obsessing about the past or the future, lashing out at others, or isolating ourselves. So many of our unhelpful behaviors protect us in the short-term, but leave long-term costs. The core of my training has been to meet you where you are--mentally and emotionally--and help you find effective techniques to overcome adversity, feel better, and move on with your life.
I am licensed to provide therapy in New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC. I have two office locations (one in Manhattan, New York and one in Washington, DC) out of which I work. I currently accept private pay, CareFirst BCBS, United Healthcare/Optum, and Cigna insurances. If paying out of pocket, I offer discounts to certain groups (teachers, nurses, people traumatized advocating for BLM or against police brutality, refugees, transgender persons, military veterans, paramedics, etc). To schedule an appointment, call (202) 670-5668 for the DC, Maryland, and New York locations, or e-mail jeremywienersocialworker@gmail.com. I am currently only available for telepsych appointments. Call to check scheduling availability.
Talk Therapy: An Overview
Talk therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a process by which a person addresses and resolves their emotional challenges. Talk therapy has been around for over a hundred years and has grown from an art to an evidence-based practice that has allowed millions of people to overcome depression and anxiety, resolve painful past experiences, improve their interpersonal relationships, and change self-destructive patterns. My clients range from persons of all ages, across a wide variety of races, genders, religions, and sexual orientations. I am LGBTQIA friendly and cross-culturally trained.
Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most tried and tested therapies in America. CBT focuses on the ways in which we think (our cognitions) and act (our behaviors). CBT is especially helpful in treating depression and anxiety issues.
EMDR & Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) are two cutting edge therapies that address and resolve the way painful memories and emotions are stored in our minds and bodies. Both treatments are also specialized in treating traumas (physical, sexual, and emotional).
Prolonged Exposure Therapy
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) is a type of CBT. It is a highly structured therapy based on gradually confronting fears in a safe and controlled manner. PE is designed to treat traumas, phobias, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
