Talk Therapy: An Overview

Talk therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a process by which a person addresses and resolves their emotional challenges.  Talk therapy has been around for over a hundred years and has grown from an art to an evidence-based practice that has allowed millions of people to overcome depression and anxiety, resolve painful past experiences, improve their interpersonal relationships, and change self-destructive patterns.  My clients range from persons of all ages, across a wide variety of races, genders, religions, and sexual orientations.  I am LGBTQIA friendly and cross-culturally trained.

Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most tried and tested therapies in America.  CBT focuses on the ways in which we think (our cognitions) and act (our behaviors). CBT is especially helpful in treating depression and anxiety issues.

EMDR & Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) are two cutting edge therapies that address and resolve the way painful memories and emotions are stored in our minds and bodies.  Both treatments are also specialized in treating traumas (physical, sexual, and emotional).

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) is a type of CBT. It is a highly structured therapy based on gradually confronting fears in a safe and controlled manner. PE is designed to treat traumas, phobias, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
